who’s up for eating some worms

It’s almost spring! How do I know this?

  • My allergies have kicked into overdrive
  • I got my first scooter parking ticket of the season

Even though I haven’t been able to ride Sally since October because of the weather, I already have a parking ticket to add to my Wall of Shame. This one is special, because it’s just a warning – and I received it IN FRONT OF MY APARTMENT.

I needed somewhere to store Sally during the winter, so I made an arrangement with our landlord to park Sally in front of our building, locked to the fence. Sally sat there for 5 months without any problems, until yesterday when someone took offence – and lo, a parking ticket. Hooray! It is totally awesome; not being able to park your scooter anywhere – not even on non-city-owned property with permission from the owner. I swear, I’m trying awfully hard to go green and be a completely convenient truth, but I’m getting foiled at every non-turn and I can’t even ride anywhere yet. This sucks.

Other things that suck: the weather, Samsung’s support department, blue screens of death, day 3 of my headache, and having a client complain about your department (ie: me) being “too young and tech-savvy” to do the job properly. When the job in question is training people to use our software, I would generally think that being “tech-savvy” is a good thing – and hey, when you’ve been trained four separate times and you still don’t get it, perhaps the problem isn’t with the young tech-savvy people training you but with your complete inability to use technology more advanced than a microwave oven. Just sayin’.

This is not a good Tuesday. In fact, my only happy is coming from MacBeth – iTunes insists on repeating “Family Reunion” by Blink182 many times during the day. The joy is in the lyrics; the only words of the song are “shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits fart turd and twat”, which excellently sums up how I feel about pretty much everything right now.

We braved the Big Mall (BC version) last night, to redeem a series of items that would give us untold treasures in free and/or cheap loot. The evening started at the bookstore, where we hit up the bargain tables with a fury – I came away with three books that will entertain me a great deal, all for less than $15. Shan found a birthday present for her mom, and then we were off to the MAC store (makeup, not computers). MAC has a delightful policy of allowing you return 6 empty containers in exchange for a free item. In the spirit of spring cleaning, I went through all my secret stashes and culled a lot of my expired makeup – so much so that I had 36 pieces to return. I didn’t exactly need 6 new pieces of makeup, so I shared with Shan. We each came away with two new eye shadows and a new lip goo each, and in addition to our free loot we each opted to cure aids by purchasing the new Viva Glam lip goo. Feeling mighty fine about ourselves, it was off to the Body Shop because my mom thinks I am still 12 and gives me a gift certificate each Christmas. I had $25 to spend, so I got some new shower gel. I really wanted to cure aids at the Body Shop too, but their promotional perfume stuff is really toxic and I don’t want to smell like I should be in junior high anymore. We wandered around for a bit more – Shan bought a CD, I was attacked by a lip-gloss wielding maniac in the Aveda store, and I bought two untried shirts at Old Navy that turned out to be totally great – before we headed out to trade in the Yaris for the anticipated return of the Mazdabator.

This morning was equally productive; Ed and I cleaned the apartment and then he brought out Sally for me, warming her up so I could go on the first ride of 2007. It’s awfully nice outside, and Sally is super fun to ride. I’m freshly showered now, and we’re just waiting for the good word from JoshShan so we can all head outside to do .. stuff.

Busy busy.

I also have a new favourite drink – POM Tea! The Pomegranate Lychee Green Tea is frickin’ awesome, and it comes in a glass you can keep and drink Diet Coke out of just like I am doing now. Hooray for antioxidants! I am so healthy.

Lastly, someone please buy me this because omg.

The sheer enormity of my balls got the better of me this morning. I wanted to get one last ride into work before the weather turned wet for the winter, and since it’s lovely and sunny and clear out, I thought today would be the day for Sally and I to rule the streets.

Turns out that day should have been several weeks ago – it’s COLD out there. I was stuck in traffic for a very long time, and I can’t feel my face or legs or tail. I’m frozen to the bone! Riding in today was not a very good idea at all. If I was just a little smarter, I would have rethought my plan as I was chiseling the ice off Sally’s seat – but I’m not very smart sometimes, and this is another one of my less-than-shining moments. I am really, really not looking forward to going home this afternoon. I might have to bail out of the space station a little early so I can be home before sundown – not only am I afraid of being attacked by zombies, I do not want to risk riding when it dips below 0. I hate being cold almost as much as I hate the undead.

I am going to take part in NoBloPoMo, the lazy man’s alternative to NaNoWriMo. Instead of writing a novel in 30 days, your objective is to merely make at least one post every day for the entire month of November. HAH, I scoff. I’ve been writing daily updates for almost six straight years – I can do one month, easy! Oh, yes. Fame and fabulous randomly drawn prizes will totally be mine. Actually, there’s already a wrench in the ointment – I’m going out of town this month, and it’ll make daily updating tricky. I’ll still update, though. Even if I have to do it by cell phone and pay out the ass per update, I will not fail my mission! To the internet – and beyond!

I’m going to California! I was invited to go to the VIA Couples, Computers and Gaming conference in San Francisco. I can’t wait! I’ll be staying with the g0d girlz and doing commentary for their demo games, as well as appearing on a discussion panel. I fly out on Friday the 10th and return early Monday morning. I’m so excited! I love the g0d girlz, and I’m in a unique position for this particular topic, given how Ed and I met, got engaged, and celebrated our wedding. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I’m totally looking forward to it. Yay for adventure!

happy halloween!
