culinary mastermind

I’ve never been so glad to have a blinding headache in my life. I woke up this morning in a considerable amount of pain and figured I was in for another one of my delicious migraines, but lo! The pain subsided to a point where it could be downgraded to a mere tropical storm, and I am back in the space saddle again after a morning of much-needed darkness and silence.

In the spirit of trying New Things in the New Year, I am eating Chef Boyardee for the very first time ever. This is another reason why I can never have kids – children eat disgusting things I am not prepared to know about. “Mommy mommy can I have some macaroni and cheese?” “Umm, no. How about you try this lovely Torta di Zucca instead? It’s a roasted winter squash tart with toasted walnuts, sage and amaretto crème fraiche!” “.. I hate you, mommy.” “Yeah, well, I wanted a pug.”

SHAN arrives tonight, for keeps. Operation: Move Cool People into our Apartment Building is going as planned!

  1. Kids don’t eat stuff they don’t know about. If your hypothetical children had never been introduced to Chef Boyardee or macaroni & cheese, they wouldn’t know to ask for it. :P Just saying… although I’ve been told that the influence of the media (yay commercials) will likely corrupt their innocence. Ah well.

  2. Ok, so here is my mommyness take:
The SC does not know about chef boyardee, and he does know about edamame and sushi and pesto and broccoli, and loves them all. He’s had an unorthodox upbringing.

Sure, he knows about McDonalds — like Ali said — they discover things from media and friends at school — but it hasn’t affected his love of spinach or salmon :)

    $0.03, adjusted for inflation.

  3. As they said, kids only know what they are introduced to. Mine are vegetarians, athiest and home schooled to boot. We don’t watch tv either. So they are about as unorthodoxed as they come! They love weird healthy foods, always ask for water or milk for dinner at restraunts, can sit through a play and or opera, and love to play violent video games. Weird huh?
