depressing

This image is supposed to gross you out.

This one, too. And this.

They’re Brazilian ads for yogurt. The caption reads “Forget about it. Men’s preference will never change. Fit Light Yogurt”

If I looked like that first woman did, I would spend every waking moment being naked and dazzling. She’s beyond gorgeous – yet she’s supposed to utterly disgust you and drive you to buy yogurt to better yourself and not look like her.

Um, okay.

I am depressed now. The world sucks. All fat people are hideous. Let’s mock them for fun and profit!

  1. Wow, that’s amazing. My first instinct was to think those women were beautiful and full of confidence.

What those ads are attempting to portray *is* depressing.

  2. I thought every single one of those women were beautiful. Actually, I really, really liked the one with the rose petals. If you hadn’t told me what those ads were for, my reaction would have been, “How fucking cool is that? Someone finally showing that you don’t have to be a stick to be drop-dead gorgeous!”

    Fuckers.

  3. I thought that first chick looked amazing. I don’t know of any guy friends who wouldn’t start drooling or need to adjust their pants after seeing that.

But man, what’s there to say to all this? Thank God we’re not in Brazil?

  4. I wonder if the captions read:
“Hey, fatass! Have some mucus-forming yogurt, which you may or may not be able to digest, to try and land yourself a MAN; after all, you’re nothing without one, worse, you’re a *disgusting* nothing!”

    Niiiiice.
I’m going to go make guacamole now!
And I agree; they’re all hot and so are you! Not every guy likes girls that look like pre-teen boys.

  5. Oh my god. I clicked on the first link before reading the post and I was like “WOO! BABY! Holy moly!” and then I read the post and what? She’s NOT gorgeous? Wait, yes she is! That is crazy.

  6. Beauty is said to be skin deep, so I think we should look a little deeper.

I took a trip through many blogs on this ad campaign, and most posters thought the ads were shallow, stupid… etc.

My first thought was : ” How could Kimli injure herself doing this????” “How would she keep the petals from falling off her boobs? ” “Wait a minute, that would be just fine”

But then, I started thinking with my head, and remembered that the majority of the purchasers of this type of product are not the overweight, but the skinny ones with the self image that they are fat, because they believe in the Hollywood Hype, and that’s the real sickness of it all. The ads are not really directed at the overweight, but those who have a self image of being fat.

Lastly, all the blogs were folks just talking amongst themselves, people of similar interests and beliefs, so no one out in the “real world” was seeing an alternate view of this ad campaign. Blog chat does not change the world.

    Here’s what does:

    Complain to the ones responsible:

The company who ran the ad:

They are not a multinational, but a food producer co-op; this product appears to be a licensed product created by Dannon, and produced locally in Brazil by Itambe..

    The ad agency:

They thought this up…but Itambe agreed to it.

No, they don’t run an ad campaign like that of Brazil, yet.

..and above all, remember, that unless you are lactose intolerant, yogurt is good for you. Put yogurt on top of pie a la mode, and it cancels out all the bad stuff. Really.
