well played

I just got back from seeing my first movie in over 4 years. Ed, his cousin Cliff and I saw the Transformers movie in a truly disgusting theatre in Edmonton.

I .. liked it.

I went into the movie knowing that this was not 1986, I am not 12 years old, and the movie I was about to see was not a cartoon and not the original – and with all that in mind, I liked it. Sure, it was cheesy and over the top, but it sort of fit. Several things made me laugh out loud – I enjoyed the Rise Against poster appearing twice – and I left the theatre satisfied. Thirsty, but satisfied.

Well played, Michael Bay. It’s not the same, but you didn’t fill me with incoherent rage and I suppose that’s gotta be worth something.

Now, don’t fuck up the sequels.

  1. Hey Dee, long time no see. Resident Canuckistanian RTCW player here. Saw the movie too and was just absolutely astonished that it was enjoyable.

Then again i think the fact that my expectations were literally so low i was expecting the lights to go down and the movie to start rolling a 60-foot tall micheal bay bending optimus prime over a giant pile of money and raping our collective childhoods for 2 hours helped quite a bit with me being pleasantly suprised.

And you’re right, it wasn’t 1986. It wasn’t the transformers we know and love, but it was actually good. Probably the best CGI that’s ever graced a film, and i can’t believe some of the jokes made me laugh either. Shia TheCow was actually pretty good.

But anyways, all that and i still thought to myself; “But… did it pass the acid test?”. and proceeded to open firefox and find your blog to see if it did. Yes, transformers is inherently linked with Kimli in my mind! How cool is that?

Glad to see you enjoyed it too. Confirms for me my graces can’t just be bought with hot chicks and explosions.

P.S. I got an erection every time Optimus said an iconic line from the original movie.
