we’re gonna be just fine

Zombies are popular. I can name dozens of zombie-related things – movies, video games, instructional manuals – off the top of my head. Also popular are post-apocalyptic scenarios, in which mankind stubbornly refuses to succumb to the elements/radiation/undead/disease/alien invasion/vengeful plants/Nicolas Cage. I’ve been submerged in worst case scenario survival since the time I could read, and coupled with my love of video games (automatically makes me a trained killer), I am reasonably certain I could predict and react to whatever comes my way. I am just one person – there are millions like me; training for the inevitable disguised as entertainment. Most of them have better aim than I do. Some of them have ready access to weapons. All of us know what to do when a rotting hulk of mindless, hungry flesh shambles our way.

When the zombie apocalypse hits, I think we’re gonna be just fiiiiiiine.

  1. I just got done reading Day by Day Armageddon. One thing that is rarely accounted for is the sheer numbers of zombies. You have a few thousand rounds of ammunition, but the scale of zombies will likely be thousands more than depicted. You couldn’t load a shotgun fast enough to take care of all of them.

You’d need a new generation of weapons with cutter ammo that would shred upon contact, exploding ammo, dispersal grenades and the like. Things that would take care of lots of them in groups. Since they appear to be drawn to sounds or heat, we’d need decoys that would have an infrared signal or thumpers similar to those used in Dune.

They could be set on time delay to cover your escape and be installed with fragmentary explosives to detonate after a set period of time or when they get disturbed by the zombies. Also with the option to remote detonate as well. See? All is well with the world as long as we start making consideration for the vast numbers of them now.

Otherwise, 2,000 rounds of ammo won’t even make a dent in the 2-3 Billion walking dead.
